What to Do in the Area

Fishing Lake Métis Settlement sits in the heart of lake country in Northeast Alberta. We are surrounded by beaches, provincial parks, historic sites, and people who know this land deeply. Whether you're extending your stay or just curious what's nearby, here's where to go and who to talk to.

Riel Beach

Riel Beach

A 46-site campground and beach on the north shore of Frog Lake, owned and run by Fishing Lake Métis Settlement. A wide, sandy beach sits on a 12-mile-long lake known for some of the best fishing in Alberta, along with boating and relaxing by the water. Kayak, paddleboard, and paddleboat rentals are available on-site, along with hiking and biking trails stretching across the property.

Frog Lake National Historic Site

A quiet, contemplative site marking one of the most significant events in the region's history, the 1885 uprising at Frog Lake. The site features a commemorative cairn, a small cemetery, and an interpretive trail with panels exploring the historic context of the uprising. A meaningful stop for visitors wanting to understand the deeper history of this land.

Ross Lake & Whitney Lake

Two connected lakes within the same provincial park, both offering natural sand beaches and opportunities for swimming, boating, paddling, fishing, and birding throughout the summer. More than 30 km of trails wind through the park, linking the lakes and offering excellent wildlife- and bird-spotting opportunities. A great option for a day trip.
